Review of Paris Hilton's Self Titled Album
December 14th 2006 23:43
Paris Hilton’s eponymous album is rather like Paris herself, mostly style with very little substance. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not fun. In fact, I liked this album more than I expected to. Of course, my expectations were very low.
The production team of Scott Storch and Greg Wells should be congratulated for producing a very slick dance album. Unfortunately, while production is slick, it doesn’t quite make up for the fact that Paris quite obviously can not sing. Her sings in a breathy whisper through most of the songs and there has been a lot of computer work done over the vocals that gets irritating after a while.
The first single off the album, ‘Stars Are Blind’, is a catchy pop song with a strong Caribbean feel. It’s a feel-good summer hit, that is rather like eating chinese food. It’s nice at the time, but twenty minutes later it’s like you never ate anything at all.
The rest of the album is very similar. It’s catchy, has good dance beats and is solid bubble gum pop. The lyrics are pure Paris, fun but not terribly deep. There’s lines like, ‘everybody’s looking at me. But that’s alright I like attention’. Or the why the boys are ‘Fighting Over Me’ is ‘maybe because I’m hot to death and I’m so so so sexy’.
Songs such as Nothing in This World, Not Leaving Without You, Screwed and I Want You fun dance songs that will have you humming along, even though you want to hate them.
Paris’ one foray into a slightly more heartfelt area is the song Jealousy. With lyrics such as “I thought you were my best friend. I thought we’d be together till the end. You’re not the girl I once knew” one wonders whether it’s Paris’ rather amateurish attempt to tell her side of the split with best friend Nicole Richie.
One truly cringe-worthy moment of the album is when Paris attempts to reinvent Rod Stewart’s classic ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’. Worth a listen, only because of how spectacularly bad the song is.
Overall, Paris Hilton’s album is a kind of fun to listen and dance to, but it unlikely to be an album you’ll remember in a years time.

I guess he felt sorry for her (if that is possible) - or was he trying to score? Paris was at my local (Bondi) yesterday - promoting some old bs. The crowding around her was kinda scary
