Panic! At The Disco - Emo is Bullshit!

December 20th 2006 02:15
Rockers Panic! At The Disco have attempted to distance themself from being called emo, by calling the whole genre bullshit.

Singer, Brendon Urie told NME that the band found the label insulting and they didn't want to be pigeonholed as being only an emo band. According to Bredon "if people want to take it for the literal sense of the word, yes we're an emotional band, we put a lot of thought into what we do. People always try to stereotype us, but we don't fit the emo stereotype".

Firstly, Brendon, you just said in the first part of that statement that you did fit into the emo category, so make up your mind.

Secondly, how much time and thought do you really put into your music? Every song sounds exactly the same. That's not putting a lot of thought into your music. That's taking the same damn song and recording different lyrics!!

Panic!'s debut album was good for a while, but it lost its pezazz per se, after about a month. Then, of course, mainstream radio finally caught onto it, and buried the album until it could be buried no more, then continued on burying. It is half-decent music, a mix of emo-punk and cabaret rock which is quickly gaining popularity, but theres only so far you can go with one album. With the speed at which they've been popularised, it would be no surprise if they are as easily forgotten.

if you have ever listened to the demo versions of these songs they are very different to those that ended up on the album, especially camisido and nails for breakfast.
it appears that there were changed to fit in with a certain style, and so kind of moulded into one sound.

this was disapointing, but i still love panic and all their music.

Their lyrical output certainly hasn't impressed me. Often it seems that a song title is longer than the unique lyrics of the actual song.

I quite liked them at the beginning, but I guess with any popular music, mainstream radio killed it for me. Their first 2 singles were played so much it drove me insane. I really liked the first single, but the second and third didn't impress me. I agree, their song titles are often more imaginative than their lyrics
