Triple J Hottest 100 - Did You Pick The Winner?

January 29th 2007 23:26
I might have been away sick all last week as a result of ear infections and wisdom teeth that had to be removed. But thankfully I was able to put all the pain aside and enjoy myself on Australia Day (and by 'put the pain aside', I obviously mean 'numb the pain by drinking large quantities of alcohol).

Listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown while attending an Australia Day bbq is an Australia Day tradition. Though I must say, that this is the first year in many years that I failed to pick who would take out the Number 1 spot. My prediction for this year was Eskimo Joe's Black Fingernails, Red Wine. The song in face, came in at number 2, beaten out by Augie March's One Crowded Hour. A big surprise for sure, and though I'm not a huge Augie March fan, One Crowded Hour is a fantastic song.

I am not from OZ so not real sure what Australia Day is, but very glad that you enjoyed it. I like it that Killers were up in the ranks. I was ok with them when they first came out, but I really like the latest. 'When You Were Young'. It's a little bit U2 and a lilttle bit Coldplay. I am having a contest on Grammy predictions. What is the Triple J?

Hi Tinkster - Triple J is a radio station. Each year they open voting to the general public and do a countdown of the top 100 songs for the year.

I'm a fan of the Killers too. I'll have to come along and take part in your Grammy prediction contest

I'm glad Augie March took out the number 1 slot. It's an amazing song (chiilingly so, live) and one I thought would've been neglected from short term memory in favour of something more recent. On you J fans!

Most of the top 10 was predictable, save the Grates who should be resigned to that particular 6 months everyone thought they were great collectively, whilst individually was considered a loud splash of mediocrity.

Also glad the Hilltop Hoods got a gong at #3; thought the Arctic Monkeys would have been higher, along with Blasko and Ben Harper. And where was Sneaky Sound System?

Hi Justin,

I was just looking through the list this morning and also was surprised not to see Sneaky Sound System in the list!

It's a pretty good list. It's great to see the Foo Fighters in there with Everlong, as well.

Nina - Foo Fighters are my favourite band of all, so I'm always happy to see them. And the acoustic version of everlong is just a great song!

Hi Kylie

Hope you're feeling better, sounds like it was a rotten week. I hated having my wisdom teeth out, I felt like I had a big hole in my head...

I didn't pick the number 1, but I think it's a great song. I was pleased to see Muse in there...I saw them at the Horden last week and was blown away.

Brenton - I also was pleasantly surprised to see Augie March in at number 1. Quiet achievers!

Tracy - hiya! Yes the wisdom teeth were not fun! It's always good to see Muse do well in the countdown. I'm so jealous that you got to see them. I can imagine they would have been fantastic!

Wow, MelissaA, that's really impressive! Yes, I was wondering which songs would be on the album too.....

Too be honest, I was shocked myself!
I actually managed to pick:
1 Augie March One Crowded Hour
2 Eskimo Joe Black Fingernails, Red Wine
5 Scissor Sisters I Don't Feel Like Dancing
6 Gnarls Barkley Crazy
7 Snow Patrol Chasing Cars

I figured a Killers one would be involved somewhere, just wasn't sure which one.

I'd also thought these might be up there, so I wasn't too far off:
13 My Chemical Romance Welcome To The Black Parade
15 Lily Allen Smile

Yes, I thought a Killers would be close by and Lily and Gnarls Barkley..I didn't pick Augie, but only because I forgot about them.

I had totally forgotten about Augie. I knew that Gnarls Barkley, Eskimo Joe, Scissor Sisters and the Killers would be up there, so they didn't come as a surprise.

I also thought My Chemical Romance may have broken the top 10.
